The new book from Montreal's Conundrum Press and New York's PictureBox (www.pictureboxinc.com) and distributed by D.A.P, documents nearly a decade of work by Marc Bell and a loosely affiliated group of artists including Peter Thompson, Jason McLean, Amy Lockhart, Owen Plummer, Tommy Lacroix, S.P. Ehman, Keith Jones, and Mark Connery. Their work falls somewhere between children's book art, comics, psychedelia and fine art. Nog A Dod focuses on some of their greatest self-published achievements: The Book Of Sweden, Bucktooth Magnifying Glass, Ultra Sommy, The Perpetual Motion Machine, Carousel, Strawbaby, Flip Flop Prophets, Volvo Rollbars, Knoze Clippah, Pee On The Owl, Long Time Journey and many more. Giant Robot started from a black and white photocopied zine in 1994, evolving into a reputable, internationally distributed bi-monthly magazine and book publisher. Giant Robot Store opened its doors on Sawtelle Blvd. in West LA in 2001. In 2003, Giant Robot opened GR2, a hybrid store/gallery featuring emerging artists such as David Choe, kozyndan, and Barry McGee. Later that year GRSF opened in San Francisco's Upper Haight district, followed by a Giant Robot restaurant, gr/eats, to further the lifestyle experience. In 2005, a fourth store was opened in Los Angeles' popular Silver Lake neighborhood, with a fifth installment in New York City's East Village. The most recent addition is the Giant Robot Gallery which opened this past March next door to the Giant Robot New York Store. A reception for the artists will be held from 6:30 to 10:00 pm on Saturday, September 30th. Marc Bell, Amy Lockhart, Jonathan Petersen, Julie Voyce, S.P. Ehman and Keith Jones will be present to sign books and body parts.
